South East Region

The South East Region is comprised of eight chapters from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida east of the panhandle. The chapters are: the Florida Buccaneers, the South Florida Gold Coasters, the Florida Roadrunners, Florida Sunshine, the North Carolina Tarheels, the Chattahoochee Drifters, the South Carolina Patriots, and the Tri State Rebels. With the SE enjoying the mild winters, most of our chapters hold musters from early fall through spring.

The Chapters are active in service projects for Veterans organizations and local communities supporting a variety of charities, including Wreaths Across America, the USO, Wounded Warrior, local food banks and a variety of others.

Chapter Information

FL Buccaneers

logo

The Special Military Active Recreational Travelers Club, SMART, was formed to provide a way for all active, retired, and honorably discharged veterans interested in recreational vehicle travel, to get together, and share the camaraderie developed in the military. Chapters are formed under the National Organization. The Florida Buccaneers Chapter was formed in 1990 centered on the Tampa Bay area. We conduct several musters and get-togethers within a radius of 150 miles from that area.

Gold Coasters

logo

The South Florida Gold Coasters' Chapter is for those who would like to participate in musters normally held in Southern Florida. This area is customarily referred to as the "Gold Coast." While not limited to this area, it is usually the region of the southeastern coast of Florida along the eastern shores to the Keys. We hold musters in Feb, Apr, Oct, and Dec in Port St Lucie, Vero Beach, Lake Okeechobee, Fort Lauderdale, Bushnell, Marathon and Key West.

We also love to dine at local restaurants, play card and outside games as well as have special fun-themed musters during Valentines, Halloween, and Christmas.

Our chapter continues to grow with new members from Florida and other states. Everyone enjoys being active and involved in all aspects of chapter functions. Check us out as a guest first or join if you like having fun with young and young hearted people.

FL Roadrunners

logo

The focus of the Florida Roadrunners is to keep alive the camaraderie of belonging and continued service to our country. We continue our service by supporting charities such as VA hospitals, the Wounded Warrior Project, Wreaths across America and local food banks to name a few.

Our musters focus on fun, fellowship and food! There are some wonderful meals prepared by our members and normally we find a local restaurant to have a meal together. Side trips to local points of interest are sometimes set up by the muster host. Our evenings are full of games, (hand and foot the most popular). Weather permitting a campfire may top off the day.

You may come as a stranger, but you will leave the muster as a friend and Roadrunner family member.

The SMART motto is "Seeing the Country We Defend" and the Florida Roadrunners attempt to give our members the opportunity to accomplish this goal. Currently, we hold musters in January, March, May, September and November. We can be found running the roads during those times to the RV parks in Florida and Georgia. We encourage everyone to attend and enjoy our musters, including the SMART regional and national musters. A lot of our members belong to more than one chapter so we attempt to coordinate our muster dates with other chapters in the area making it possible for our members to take advantage of camping with other SMART chapters. Our chapter welcomes all guests and members of SMART. If you are looking for a chapter to RV with, then come and run the roads with us.

FL Sunshine

logo

Wow! is what you usually hear from members after attending a muster (rally) with the Florida Sunshine chapter of SMART, (Special Military Active Recreational Travelers). We have approximately 50 RV's in our chapter, ranging from Travel trailers to Class A Motorhomes. Membership is open to all members of the national organization. Our musters are held every other month during the year (Feb/Apr/Jun/Aug/Oct/Dec), and are usually four nights, Wednesday through Saturday, generally somewhere in the central portion of Florida. We are a friendly group with a lot of camaraderie.

Our musters are large, but personal and everyone knows everyone, and if you don't, it won't take long to feel like part of the Sunshine family. The chapter musters are active and well attended, and always adding new members. For info on our next muster click the 'Musters & Events' button above. To apply for membership in the Sunhine Chapter click 'Join the Florida Sunshine' below. We also enjoy attending SMART Regional and National musters wherever they are held. NC Tarheels

logo

The North Carolina Tarheels, a very active chapter, meets at five musters each year at various locations within the state. We are one of the few chapters that hold musters at different locations throughout the year. We also have a good turn-outs for the Regional and National Musters. We have a great time, every time, we get together.

We are quite proud of our community service projects, to needy organizations, near our muster locations. This year, Tarheel members, contributed over $1,200 in cash, clothes, food and toys to those in need, and we made over 375 sandwiches in support of a food kitchen. Being a member of SMART is being part of a family with similar travel interests. Our chapter family openly welcomes all eligible persons who might want to join us. You don't have to live in North Carolina to be a part of our family. Please refer to the Chapter Officers and Contacts below to contact any of our officers for any questions.

Tri-State Rebels

logo

Welcome to the Tri-State Rebels Chapter of the SMART Travel Club. Our Chapter was formed on 24 September 1988. Our members are from the Southeast and represent all five Services. We all share the common thread of “having served” and enjoy socializing, having fun, and the camaraderie of carrying out the SMART motto, “Seeing the Country We Defend.”

Our Musters are primarily held in Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina. Occasionally we venture outside this area. Musters are held every other month beginning in January. Somewhere between 15 and 25 rigs attend our musters. Activities include local sightseeing, games, informative sessions and most importantly good eating. Please consider joining our Chapter of fun loving and supportive members where prior (or current) military rank or grade, though respected, has no standing.
